Who We Are

The Humane Education program at the VBSPCA is dedicated to inspiring compassion, empathy, and responsible pet care through engaging and age-appropriate educational experiences. We believe that teaching kindness to animals helps build stronger, more compassionate communities for everyone.

What We Do

We create and deliver programs for youth of all ages - both at the shelter and out in the community. Through interactive lessons, behind-the-scenes shelter tours, reading programs like Tale for Two, Compassion Classroom visits, Kids Night In, seasonal workshops and much more, we teach kids how to care for animals, make humane choices, and speak up for those who can’t speak for themselves.

Whether students are learning which foods are safe for rabbits or reading stories to shelter dogs, our goal is to plant seeds of kindness that last a lifetime.

Volunteers play an important role in helping our Humane Education programs run smoothly. From greeting youth groups and prepping craft materials to assisting during events and classroom visits, our volunteers help create a welcoming, safe, and engaging environment for every young learner.

Your support helps us reach more students, make learning hands-on, and ensure that every child leaves with a better understanding of what it means to care for animals with kindness and respect.
